Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Find the Fairw.ai ("Find the Fairway", "we", "us") is a golf coaching app that tracks your rounds, calculates strokes gained and handicap trends, and gives AI coaching. It is run by an independent developer. You can reach us at findthefairwai@gmail.com.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or to track you across other companies' apps and websites.
2. What we collect
Account information
- Name and, for username accounts, a username and password (stored only as a salted hash).
- Email address, if you sign in with Google or Apple and the provider shares a verified email. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email", we receive the relay address.
- Sign-in identifiers from Google or Apple (a stable account ID, not your password).
- GHIN number and GHIN password, if you sign in with or link a GHIN account, so the app can import your scores and handicap index from GHIN for you. You can unlink GHIN in Profile, which deletes the saved password.
Golf data you create
- Rounds: date, course, tees, rating/slope, par, scores, hole-by-hole stats (fairways, greens, putts, penalties, up-and-downs, distances), shots and clubs, weather, and any notes you type or dictate.
- Group games played alongside a round, including the names of playing partners you add.
- Handicap index and handicap history, average drive distance, goals, practice plans and practice sessions.
- Course notes and strategies you save, and green/tee locations you pin on a hole map (these help correct the shared course map for everyone).
- Friends and friend requests, and side bets ("wagers") you set up with friends, including the prize text you enter.
- Questions you ask the AI caddy and the coaching it generates for you.
- Answers to the in-app feedback survey, if you send it: which features you liked, didn't like or found broken, what went wrong, name ideas and any comments you type, plus your app version.
Purchases
- If you buy Find the Fairw.ai Pro in the iOS app, Apple handles payment. We receive and store the App Store transaction ID, product, expiry/refund status and environment so we can unlock Pro. We never see your card details.
- A count of AI features you use (feature name and time) so free-tier limits can be applied.
Device and technical data
- Your approximate location when you use location features (see section 5).
- Talk-through text, or short voice recordings where your iPhone can't transcribe on the device, only when you record a talk-through (see section 5).
- Technical and diagnostic data such as IP address, browser or device type, OS version, request timing, errors and crash information (see section 6).
- A session token that keeps you signed in, stored in your device's Keychain (iOS) or browser storage (web).
3. How we use it
- To provide the app: store your rounds, compute stats, strokes gained, handicap trends and goals, and show them to you.
- To import scores and handicap data from GHIN when you have linked it.
- To generate AI coaching, round recaps, course strategies, caddy answers and voice-to-stats extraction.
- To run social features you choose to use: friends, shared stats with friends, and wagers.
- To verify purchases and apply Pro or free-tier limits.
- To keep the service working: debugging, monitoring performance and errors, and preventing abuse.
- To improve the app from the feedback you send.
- To reply when you contact us.
We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't build profiles of you for anyone else.
4. AI processing
Coaching features are powered by Google's Gemini API. When you use them, our server sends Google the data needed for that request, for example: your round and hole stats, notes, recent scoring trends, handicap, goals, course name and hole layout, and the question you asked the caddy. For voice talk-throughs, the text your iPhone transcribed (or, if it couldn't, the audio clip) is sent to Gemini to be turned into hole stats. We don't include your email address, GHIN credentials or sign-in IDs in these requests.
Some features look up public information about a golf course by name (for example, course reviews) using Gemini with Google Search. AI output can be wrong; treat it as suggestions, not facts.
Google processes these requests under its paid Gemini API terms. Google may keep request content for a limited time to detect abuse, but doesn't use it to improve Google's products or train its models. Avoid putting information you don't want shared with Google in notes, caddy questions or recordings.
Our monitoring tools record that an AI request happened, which feature made it, which model answered, how many tokens it used, how long it took and whether it failed. They do not record the text of your request or the AI's answer unless we temporarily turn on detailed AI tracing to debug answer quality or demonstrate the monitoring setup. Voice recordings are never recorded in our monitoring tools. See section 6.
5. Location and microphone
Location
The iOS app asks for location "while in use" only. It is used to:
- Show GPS distances to the green and hazards during a round. Your live position is used on your device to draw the hole map; it is not sent to our server.
- Find courses near you. This search uses Apple Maps on your device; your coordinates are not sent to our server.
- Show local weather on the Home screen. The app rounds your coordinates to roughly 1 km before sending them to our server, which passes them to Open-Meteo to fetch the forecast. We don't store your location, and only this approximate location can appear in our server monitoring.
If you pin a green or tee on a hole map, that pinned point is saved as part of the course map, not as your location.
Microphone
The microphone is used only while you record a talk-through of a hole or round. Where your iPhone supports it, speech is turned into text on the device itself (no audio leaves your phone, including to Apple); you can correct the text, and only the text is sent to our server and on to Google Gemini to pick out your hole stats. If on-device speech recognition isn't available or you turn it off, the audio clip is uploaded instead and Gemini transcribes it. Either way our server processes it in memory and does not save it, and the result comes back to you to review. Only the stats you approve (and any notes) are saved to your round.
You can deny or revoke location and microphone access at any time in iOS Settings; the rest of the app keeps working.
6. Monitoring and analytics
We use monitoring tools to keep the app fast and reliable. We don't use them for advertising.
- Server monitoring (Dynatrace). Our server sends traces, metrics and logs to Dynatrace. Request traces are tagged with your internal account ID (a number), not your name, username, email or GHIN number, so we can investigate problems you report. Traces record which endpoint was called, timing and errors; for weather requests they contain only your approximate (about 1 km) location. The text of AI requests and answers is not recorded unless detailed AI tracing is temporarily turned on (section 4).
- AI quality monitoring (Arize). The same AI request records (model, feature, token counts, timing and errors) may also be sent to Arize, an AI observability service, to evaluate the AI features. They include AI request and answer text only while detailed AI tracing is turned on.
- Web app monitoring (Dynatrace Real User Monitoring). The web app loads Dynatrace's browser monitoring script, which records page loads, clicks, errors and performance, and tags the session with your internal account ID (not your name, username or GHIN number). Depending on how monitoring is configured, this can include session replay, a reconstruction of what was shown on screen during a session.
- iOS app. The iOS app does not include a third-party analytics, crash reporting or session replay SDK. Its requests to our server are covered by server monitoring above. Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us if you opted in to share them with app developers in iOS settings. If we add mobile monitoring, we'll update this policy first.
- Feature flags (DevCycle). The iOS app checks DevCycle to see which features are switched on. It identifies itself anonymously; we don't send DevCycle your name, email or account ID.
7. Third parties and service providers
We share data only with providers that help run the app, and only what they need:
| Provider | What for | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Render | Hosts our server and database | All data stored in the app |
| Google (Gemini API) | AI coaching, recaps, caddy, voice transcription | Round data, notes, questions, talk-through text or voice clips (section 4) |
| Google Sign-In | Signing in with Google | Google account ID, name, email |
| Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store, Maps) | Signing in with Apple, purchases, nearby-course search and map imagery | Apple account ID, email or relay email, transaction info; map queries are made by your device |
| GHIN (USGA) | Importing your scores and handicap, only if you link GHIN | Your GHIN number and password are sent to GHIN to sign in on your behalf |
| Dynatrace | Server and web app monitoring | Technical data, internal account ID, approximate location for weather requests; AI request and answer text only while detailed AI tracing is on |
| Arize | AI quality monitoring | AI request metadata (model, token counts, timing); AI request and answer text only while detailed AI tracing is on |
| DevCycle | Feature flags in the iOS app | Anonymous device/app information |
| Open-Meteo | Weather on the Home screen | Coordinates rounded to about 1 km |
| OpenGolfAPI | Course search, tees, ratings and slopes | Course names you search for |

| Pexels | Background golf photos | None about you |
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of users or the service.
8. What other users can see
- Other users can find you by name or username when searching for friends.
- Friends you accept can see your stats and rounds summaries, and the wagers you share with them.
- Green and tee pins you place help correct the shared course map that all users see; they are not shown with your name.
9. Retention and deletion
- We keep your account data for as long as you have an account.
- You can delete your account in the app (Profile). This removes your account and the data linked to it from our database, including rounds, stats, goals, friends, wagers and saved GHIN credentials. Shared course-map pins you placed stay but are no longer linked to you.
- Voice recordings are not stored by us. Monitoring data in Dynatrace and Arize is kept for the retention period configured in those services and then deleted automatically.
- Unlinking GHIN deletes the saved GHIN password; rounds already imported remain until you delete them or your account.
- You can also email findthefairwai@gmail.com to ask for a copy of your data or for deletion.
10. Security
- All traffic between the app and our server uses HTTPS.
- Your GHIN password is encrypted at rest with a key kept outside the database.
- Username passwords are stored only as salted PBKDF2 hashes, and session tokens are stored only as hashes.
- On iOS, your session token is kept in the Keychain.
No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify affected users of a breach where required.
11. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
12. Your choices
- Use the app without GHIN, location or the microphone; each is optional.
- Edit or delete rounds, goals and notes at any time, unlink GHIN, or delete your account in Profile.
- Contact us to access, correct or delete your data. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we'll honor valid requests.
13. Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when the app's data practices change and revise the effective date above. For significant changes we'll let you know in the app.
